Danny Kennedy MLA, Ulster Unionist Party, was appointed as the new DRD Minister on Monday 16 May 2011.

Political Career:
Member of Newry and Mourne District Council since 1985, (Chairman 1994/5), Member of The Northern Ireland Assembly since 1998, Chairman of the Northern Ireland Assembly Committee on Education. Deputy Leader of the Ulster Unionist Party.
Background:
Married with three children. Educated at Newry High School. Was an employee of British Telecom for 20 years before being elected to the Assembly.
Member of the Ulster Unionist Party since 1974 and has served at all levels of the Party, both locally and within the wider Party organisation. Also served on the Committee of the Centre, established to examine and report on the wide range of functions carried out in the Office of the First Minister and the Deputy First Minister and on any other related matters determined by the Assembly.
The Bessbrook man previously served on the Northern Ireland Tourist Board before being elected to represent the area in the Assembly.
Mr Kennedy is also Clerk of Session and Sunday School Superintendent at Bessbrook Presbyterian Church. He is a member of the Boards of Governors of Bessbrook Primary School and Newry High School.
The Minister was welcomed after his appointment, by the Permanent Secretary and received an initial briefing on key strategic issues. Further detailed briefings will be provided by Directors.[img][/img]
